At The Klocko Center, we are dedicated to practicing cosmetic dentistry at the highest level. Dr. Klocko has spent many years studying cosmetic dentistry procedures with experts all over the country. Our goal is to give you the smile that you have always wanted and we work hard to define what that looks like in your mouth and how we can best get there. It really is “all about you!”

Cosmetic Makeovers with Veneers

Dr. Klocko may recommend veneers if you want to improve the appearance of your smile by eliminating gaps, uneven tooth size, and discoloration. Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or lithium disilicate that are fabricated to be bonded to the surface of a tooth. We work closely with the laboratory technician to choose the best material for the design of your case, making each veneer a literal custom-made work of art.

Types of Veneers

There are two types of veneers: traditional veneers in which a small amount of tooth structure is removed from the front of the teeth and prep-free veneers that require no tooth structure removal. Not all patients are good candidates for the prep-free veneers, but Dr. Klocko will guide you to the best alternative to give you the smile you have always wanted.

If you choose traditional veneers, your teeth are prepared by taking a small amount of enamel off the front surface of the tooth and taking impression for the laboratory. A set of temporary veneers are bonded in place, which you will wear until your permanent veneers are fabricated by the lab. Once the lab has returned the veneers, your temporary veneers will be removed and the permanent restorations are bonded in place.

For prep-free veneers, Dr. Klocko will not remove any tooth structure and your will not need temporary veneers. We will take an impression of your mouth, which will be sent to the lab. Once the lab has created your veneers, your permanent restorations are bonded in place.

Caring for Your Veneers

You should care for your veneers just as you care for your natural teeth. Biting into hard foods and using your teeth “as tools” (biting off threads, tearing open packages, etc.) are definitely discouraged. That is good advice for teeth with or without veneers! Of course, brushing, flossing, and scheduling regular dental checkups at our Gambrills, MD dental office are a must!
