The Klocko Center’s preventive care program is not a “one size fits all” plan. Dr. Klocko and her team will identify your specific problem areas and design a plan and make a recommendation to address your special needs. Our goal is to provide education on the issues regarding your dental health and show you how to achieve and maintain an optimal level of oral health.
We recommend regular dental cleanings and examinations every six months at our Gambrills dental office so that any problems in the beginning stages of development can be detected early and treated before they become more serious issues that require more extensive treatment.
Your comprehensive dental examination will include an examination of your:
- Teeth for signs of decay, wear, erosion, and trauma from a bad bite
- Gums for signs of inflammation, infection, recession, and pocketing from loss of bone around the teeth
- Soft tissues for any lesions or sores that could be related to oral cancer
- Temporomandibular joints for signs of instability that could lead to tooth loss and pain
- Salivary flow to detect dry mouth
During your exam, you will also receive counseling on keeping a healthy diet, emphasizing limiting foods not only high in sugar but foods that are highly acidic.
If Dr. Klocko determines that you have a high decay rate, we offer several treatment modalities, all of which are customized to your goals. We may recommend a prescription toothpaste such as Clinpro™ 5000 to strengthen areas of enamel breakdown by remineralizing those areas to stop the process. We also offer the CariFree program that uses treatment rinses and a remineralizing toothpaste to reduce the bacteria that cause cavities.
In addition to determining the health of your teeth, we will also examine carefully for signs of gum disease. We identify areas of inflammation and bone loss and treat those areas appropriately. It may be a thorough cleaning and scaling, a site-specific antibiotic placement with Arestin®, or very detailed home care instructions tailored to your specific needs.
If you ever have questions about the best ways to prevent oral health issues, please don’t hesitate to call our Gambrills dental office and speak with a member of our team. We’re here to help you achieve your best possible smile.
